Buying a "Stolen-Recovered" Bargain? You Could Be Financing a Burned-Out Criminal Shell.

The car is back. That doesn't mean its security, structure or story is sound. Check the recorded history and challenge the seller before you hand over a single penny.

Three Catches Behind a Recovered Bargain

“Only stolen for a few days” is a story. You need evidence.

Recovered Does Not Mean Untouched

A recovered car may have altered keys, compromised security or damaged wiring. A database marker cannot tell you whether its ECU has been hacked or its security properly restored. Ask for invoices and an independent electronic assessment.

The Auction Photos Tell Another Story

Fresh paint and a clean advert can hide a much rougher recovery. Compare available auction photos with the car in front of you. Missing photos are not proof of a clean past, and unrecorded damage may never appear in a history check.

A Cheap Price Is Not a Repair Audit

Check the VIN, the seller's right to sell and the evidence behind every repair claim. Confirm the vehicle's current stolen status and ask your insurer about cover before buying. A recovered theft is not automatically an insurance write-off.

Walked Away? Protect Your Next Move.

Keep your money until the car, the paperwork and the payment all stand up to scrutiny.

Independent Inspections

A mobile pre-purchase mechanical check before you commit to the next car. Confirm whether electronic diagnostics and structural checks are included.

Gap Insurance

Explore cover for a qualifying total-loss shortfall. Eligibility, exclusions and payout limits depend on the policy; check whether theft-recovered vehicles qualify.

Secure Escrow

Consider a private-purchase payment service with clear release conditions. Verify the provider independently and never trust a seller-supplied escrow link.

Clean Car Finance

Compare finance for your next vehicle through a verified broker. Check the broker's regulatory status, total repayable and terms before applying.
